Finally, I had the chance to listen to your new CD while having a massage, and, no less, the one I consider to be my "birthday" massage! It was perfect; just the right energy for escape! I let the layers of your music's textures lift me into a lightness of being; allowing the physical pain and the mental knots to float up and out. Ahhhhh, so needed, so relaxing, so enjoyable! Annie, you are so free in the giving of your many gifts, and I am honored to know you are my friend. Lots of love from afar & P.S. I also listened to Winds of the World on a quick road trip to/from Tampa, and it made the ride seem less complicated, softening the chaos of interstate travel, with the only disappointment being when I realized that all 11 tracks were through .... hugs, nancy

hey there everyone!
welcome welcome to my brand shiny new guest book.
i hope y'all use it to share little bits of diamonds & dust about music(mine included), great places to go, inspiration... whatever.
i'll be posting snippets/annienews from time to time- so check in periodically.
right now- my biggest news is that i finally finished recording my long awaited cd. i recorded it/co produced it at my good buddy tom prasada rao's studio & am overjoyed that he's joined me throughout the whole album on backup vocals, guitars, bass, violin, mandolin & dulcimer. i'm playing guitars, piano, dulcimer, flutes, congas, udu, steel drum & all sorts of other percussion toys...
we're both so excited proud of how it turned out & so far everyone who's heard it feels the same way!
i'm really hoping for a mid-summer "birth" & will keep y'all posted on the progress.
as always- many thanks for your love & support & light,
annie

Hey there Annie! This is a wonderful addition to your site! I was wondering how you made out with the drum vendor list I sent, and if you had much luck. I am looking this year to see if I can get a nice PowWow Drum for the scouts! My old mail list was deleted by the mail provider, so my contacts lost, I am starting from scratch. It is a shame, as two of the Native American Vendors said they would consider my request this year! Oh well, as the spirit shall move things is how it shall be!
I got a new drum myself! A real Djembe! (as if my big drum were not real, seemed real carrying up to the drum camp!!!) This one is carved from one solid log and with a goat skin head! It sounds wonderful. I hope you will be at MagFest this year to hear it!
Bright Blessings and Much Love,
Namaste!

Note From annie from everywhere
August 6, 2001
hi y'all... as some of you know, last year i left the US for about 5 months on a "round the world" backpacking trip. while i was gone, i sent "notes from the road" to folks on my mailing list, & later had those notes published as a series in "the springfield journal"/"bravo arts magazine". this is the last note in the series. previous notes are archived at their website & i eventually hope to put them all together in short story form... here it is. many thanks! annie
"Notes from the Road".... ~ Reentry...The Plunge~
Annie Wenz is an internationally touring recording/performance artist.
This is the final episode in her series about last year’s 5 month "Round the World" backpacking trip through New Zealand, Australia, Southeast Asia & India...
My last “Notes” brought me from India on to Germany, Netherlands & England, & finally returning home May 1, 2000. It seems fitting, after returning from such a life changing, eye opening experience to somehow find a way to wrap it it... to attempt to put it in a nutshell or come up with some witty philosophical encapsulation of “an artist’s journey
around the world”, but it won’t be easy. What I call “Re-entry” sure wasn’t easy. Sometimes it’s all a blurry dream to me. How do you go from often sleeping in a cubby so small you have to go outside to change your mind, & living out of a backpack where what you store in every square millimeter of space matters (I threw out a q-tip... now what can I fit
in my pack?) to living in a house with several rooms & a closet full of clothes? What goes through a persons mind when they go from buying food at a fruit stand on the crowded streets of Ho Chi Minh City to the shiny aisles of “Stop & Shop” where you can chose from an entire aisle of cereals? When I arrived in Frankfort, Germany & walked as if in a
trance, along an outdoor shopping mall displaying store after store of bowls & vases & clocks & decorative doodads to put on shelves in the living room, I flashed back to a man I saw on a corner in Mysore, India waiting patiently while a “cobbler” slowly stitched up his rubber flip flop/sandal. I try to explain “re-entry” by attempting to suck people
into the window of my mind as I entered what seemed to me like a neon-daglo “Twilight Zone”...
I was only “back on this planet” for a few days, when I decided to kill some time while waiting to rendezvous with a friend... I was 1/2 hour early, as my sense of time & date was still totally whacked (it was May, but for some reason I kept thinking it was October- maybe it was because
I missed winter???) So there’s one of those “Christmas Stores”, I’ve never been in one... I’ll graze around there a bit. Well, the ridiculousness of what we’ve come to accept in the Western world as “reality” slapped me in the face like a hurricane wave. There I was, surrounded by room after room of stuff you don’t need to survive, months away from Christmas, knowing sure as hell that folks enter & come out
with bags busting seams thinking “I just have to have that”. The topper of all was in a bin in the 4th room after the mechanical angel dolls & the white trees with the red balls. It was a “snowman kit”! For $19.95, it contained a rubber carrot, plastic scarf, faux lumps of coal for eyes & mouth & plastic hat. Believe it or not- this, to me represented all
that is ridiculous, wasteful, lazy, uncreative, gullible & sad about this often consumer driven world. I picked it up totally amazed. The woman who worked at the store said “that’s adorable isn’t it?” I stammered “wwwweeeellll, you know, I just got back from Malaysia... they just don’t have things... like this... in Malaysia... WOW!” I staggered
out of the store. I hopped on the turnpike where I was given a receipt with an advertisement on the back, pulled into a parking lot where folks fought to park as close as possible to the door so they could go to the gym to work out & slipped into a movie theater where I had to close my eyes & ears on & off to cut down on the input. Now those of you reading
this are probably saying “Annie came home one chopstick short of a set”. I really didn’t. It’s just that this is how things appeared upon my return by contrast. After being amongst folks who live hand to mouth & know nothing about advertising or the stock market or Beenie Baby’s or Regis & Kathy Lee... I was a bit overwhelmed.
I had decided that about a week after my return, I would go to the Kerrville Folk Festival in Kerrville, TX. I wasn’t playing at the festival this year, but like many other writers & performers, Kerrville is a magical place to go & share new songs, bounce your ideas off other writers & just slow down, kick back & get inspired. It turns out this
was about the best re-entry one could ask for. I took an uneventful nonstop flight, gathered my backpack guitar, & a duffle bag busting with a tent & enough clothing for a year, (I’d gone hog wild... because i could!) & caught a ride with a friend. As I approached the festival gate, I was greeted by folks dressed in patchwork clothing, smelling of Patchouli saying “Welcome Home”... ahhhh I can handle this. It was
definitely a smoother- gentler way to “dive back into the pool”, but I still found myself breaking into tears when people asked me about the trip... life was so fragile & I became fragile when describing the people & conditions I saw. Some of my tears were of sadness & some were tears of the joy from being moved by people’s spirit & generosity.
After ten days, I was ready to face the world again. I left Kerrville & slowly dipped back into my life...
During my writing/series I failed to mention one of the most... invigorating experiences that took place in the early part of my journey in New Zealand. Bungy jumping off a 150’ bridge!!!, which I decided to do to attempt to overcome my fear of heights & rivers. I do in fact rock climb, & have kayaked for many years, but a few months before my trip, I had a scary kayaking accident in a class V river. I failed to
roll my boat & had to “swim the Kennebec River gorge” until just as I thought I was a goner- some guy rescued me. Anyway... It seems fitting now to mention “the plunge” at the end of my writing since my trip was like the jump. I jumped because not only would I challenge myself, (And hell- I got two of my best songs out of it!) but it seemed to be
such a metaphor for so much in life. The fears of taking the plunge, the fear of falling & of the unknown, the gentle hands of those who offer to push you & those who are there to cheer you on & catch you until you realize you’re not alone... We go, we fear, we jump, we realize we can
do it & we incorporate what we learned in our lives & try to share the lesson & the view...
It’s been an honor & a pleasure to share my journey & window of the world, small as it was, with you all over the past year. Many thanks to the folks at “Bravo” & the “Journal” for giving me the opportunity & also to those who’ve written to share their comments. I wrote so many songs inspired by my trip & really hope to eventually publish a book of
short stories. I will continue to write articles about life & art & hope to meet some of you at my workshops & performances...
